The Real Mary Magdalene: History, Myths, Relics & Revelations

Episode #51

Welcome to another episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints. And this week, we are going to focus on a particular favorite Saint of mine.  A major and very important figure in history and a woman who I believe has been very ill-treated by historical memory – Saint Mary Magdalene.  And part of my goal this week is to correct many of the misconceptions about this great woman, and there are MANY misconceptions to correct.  MANY!

For 2,000 years, her name has been praised, distorted, weaponized, romanticized, and misunderstood. But behind the legends stands a woman whose courage, faith, and witness shaped Christianity itself.

This week we will explore:

  • Her true historical background as a wealthy woman from Magdala
  • Her healing and conversion after Jesus cast out seven demons
  • How her reputation was falsely blackened for centuries
  • Her role at the Cross and the Empty Tomb
  • Why she is called the Apostle to the Apostles
  • Her leadership in the early Church
  • Her Feast Day traditions, including global celebrations, foods, and drinks
  • Her relics, miracles, and legendary journey to Provence
  • Her portrayal in art, literature, film, and modern culture
  • How New Age, Gnostic, occult, and radical feminist movements have tried to hijack her image for their own purposes
  • And why her TRUE identity matters more than ever today

This episode blends Scripture, archaeology, Church history, art, legend, and modern scholarship to reveal the real Mary Magdalene — a woman of courage, devotion, and Resurrection faith.

Mary Magdalene is not a goddess, a priestess, or a conspiracy figure. She is the first witness of the Resurrection, the Apostle to the Apostles, and a model of faithful discipleship

You won’t want to miss it!
