The Visitation: Mary, the Living Ark, and the Leap of Unborn Joy

Episode #44

Welcome to another episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints and this week we are celebrating the great Feast of the Visitation.  And there is much more to this Feast than you may at first realize.   Much more!

The Feast of the Visitation is more than a meeting between two expectant mothers — it is the moment the Ark of the New Covenant enters the Judean hill country, carrying within her the Word made flesh. As The Blessed Virgin Mary greets Saint Elizabeth, the Holy Spirit fills the house, John the Baptist leaps in the womb, and the first proclamation of the Messiah erupts before Jesus is even born.

This episode explores the Visitation through Scripture, archaeology, liturgy, and ancient Jewish typology. Discover how Mary’s journey mirrors David bringing the Ark to Jerusalem — the same hill country, the same joyful exclamation, the same overshadowing presence of God.

We will also trace the Visitation from its biblical roots in Luke 1 to its profound impact on Christian art, liturgy, music, and global tradition. Travel through Ein Karem’s ancient pathways, explore Mary’s Song, the Magnificat as a revolutionary hymn of hope, and witness how this encounter reveals the first proclamation of Christ—by an unborn child leaping for joy.

Blending historical research and theological insight, this episode reveals why the Visitation remains a cornerstone of Christian spirituality and a radiant celebration of humility, hospitality, and divine promise.

Why Christianity is True Series

Welcome to a special BONUS episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints and this week we are kicking off a new bonus series of episodes – Why Christianity is true.

In an age of skepticism, secularism, and digital noise, many Christians feel unprepared to explain why they believe what they believe. This episode explores the urgent need for apologetics today—recovering the historic Christian commitment to truth, reason, and evidence.

Journey through the cultural forces shaping modern doubt: the rise of the “nones,” the myth that science and faith are incompatible, the collapse of religious literacy, and the church’s decades‑long retreat from intellectual formation. Alongside these challenges, we uncover the powerful case for Christianity rooted in history, philosophy, science, and lived experience.

Featuring clear explanations, historical insights, and accessible arguments, this episode equips viewers to understand and articulate the rational foundation of the Christian faith. Apologetics is not about winning debates—it’s about loving God with the mind, strengthening believers, and offering honest seekers a path toward truth.

If you want to understand why apologetics are essential in the 21st century, this week will be your guide.

Pentecost Explained: Origins, Meaning, and Global Traditions

Bonus Episode

Welcome to a special BONUS episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints and this week we are celebrating a HUGE holiday in the Church, one of the biggest, right up there with Christmas and Easter.  And you know there is nothing we like more here at Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints than celebrating a holiday.  And this isn’t just any old holiday, in fact, it is a birthday celebration – the birthday for the Church - Pentecost!

And it is a BIG DEAL.  Much bigger, I bet, than you realize!

Pentecost is one of the most pivotal and misunderstood moments in the entire biblical story — a day when wind and fire descended, languages were restored, and the Church was born. This episode uncovers the deep origins of Pentecost, tracing its roots in the Jewish Feast of Shavuot, its surprising ties to the Tower of Babel, and its enduring symbolism across centuries.

Journey from ancient Israel to the streets of Jerusalem, from the ruins of Babel to Christian communities around the world. Discover how Pentecost fulfills Old Testament prophecy, reverses the scattering of nations, and reveals God’s plan to unite humanity through the Holy Spirit.

We explore:

• The biblical story of Pentecost in Acts 2

• How Shavuot shaped the meaning of the feast

• The theological link between Babel’s division and Pentecost’s unity

• The symbols of wind, fire, water, and the dove

• Global Pentecost traditions — from Europe to Africa, Asia, and the Americas

• How Pentecost continues to inspire art, worship, and Christian identity today

This is the story of a feast that began in ancient Israel, erupted in the upper room, and still transforms the world.

The Venerable Bede: The Father of English History and the Saint who Measured Time

Episode #43

Welcome to another episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints and this week we are paying tribute to one of the greatest minds of the early medieval world – Saint Bede, otherwise known as The Venerable Bede.

From the quiet stone walls of the twin monasteries of Wearmouth–Jarrow, he produced works that shaped history, theology, science, and the very way we understand time itself.

This episode explores the full breadth of Bede’s genius. We journey into his monastic world: the rhythm of prayer, the discipline of study, and the intellectual culture that allowed a humble monk to become the “Father of English History.” Through grounded historical research, we uncover how Bede preserved the story of a people on the edge of the known world.

But Bede was far more than a historian.

We examine his scientific writings, where he calculated the motions of the sun and moon, explained the tides, mapped the seasons, and refined the computus — the mathematical system used to determine the date of Easter. His work On the Reckoning of Time became the foundation for medieval astronomy and chronology, and his use of “Anno Domini” helped establish the dating system still used across the world today.

We also explore Bede’s religious and theological writings, from his commentaries on Scripture to his homilies, hymns, and reflections on the spiritual life. His biblical exegesis blended careful scholarship with deep devotion, offering interpretations that shaped Christian teaching for centuries. His writings reveal a mind that saw no conflict between faith and reason — only harmony.

This episode brings together Bede the historian, Bede the scientist, Bede the theologian, and Bede the saint. Whether you’re drawn to medieval history, Christian tradition, AngloSaxon culture, or the roots of Western learning, this episode reveals why Bedes quiet brilliance still illuminates our understanding of time, knowledge, and faith.

The Holy Lance – Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints – Bonus Easter Episode

Watch on YouTube

Easter Season Bonus Episode

Welcome to another special bonus Easter episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints.   And this week we continue our celebration of the Easter Season by discussing another one of the Relics of Easter – The Holy Lance.

The Holy Lance—revered as the spear that pierced the side of Jesus Christ—has shaped two thousand years of Christian imagination, imperial ambition, and legendary storytelling. This episode uncovers the full historical, theological, and cultural journey of the weapon known as the Spear of Destiny, beginning with the Roman soldier traditionally identified as Saint Longinus.

According to early Christian tradition, Longinus was the centurion who stood at the foot of the Cross, witnessed the darkness at midday, and pierced Christ’s side to confirm His death. The blood and water that flowed from the wound were said to have healed Longinus’s failing eyesight, leading to his conversion, baptism, and eventual martyrdom. His story became the foundation for one of the most enduring relic traditions in Christian history.

From this moment at Golgotha, we trace the competing historical claims surrounding the Holy Lance:

• the Jerusalem Lance, tied to early Byzantine emperors

• the Antioch Lance, discovered during the First Crusade

• the Armenian Lance, preserved at Geghard Monastery

• the Vienna Lance, guarded by the Habsburgs

• the Vatican Lance, linked to centuries of papal tradition

We examine how each claim emerged, how relics were authenticated (or often forged), and how political and religious leaders used the Lance to legitimize authority—from Constantine to Charlemagne, from Crusader generals to the Habsburg emperors.

The episode also confronts the modern myths surrounding the Spear of Destiny, including its appropriation by occult movements and extremist ideologies in the 19th and 20th centuries. By separating historical evidence from sensational fiction, we will restore the Lance to its true context: a relic born from the Passion narrative, shaped by centuries of devotion, and forever tied to the conversion of Longinus, the soldier who became a saint.

This week you will discover why this relic continues to inspire faith, controversy, and fascination across the world.  It will be an amazing episode; you won’t want to miss it!

Saint Monica: The Tears That Changed History

Welcome to another episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints and since Mother’s Day is coming up, it seems especially appropriate that this week we discuss one of the most influential mothers in History – Saint Monica

Saint Monica (332–387 AD) is one of the most beloved figures in Christian history—known for her unshakable perseverance, her years of prayer for her wayward son Augustine, and her quiet strength in the face of a difficult marriage.  This episode explores her North African origins, her struggles with her pagan husband Patricius, as well as her difficult Mother-in-Law, her tireless pursuit of Augustine across continents, and the spiritual legacy that helped shape one of the greatest theologians of all time.

Featuring historical context, early Christian culture, Augustine’s own writings, and centuries of tradition, this episode reveals the depth, humanity, and heroic love of the woman whose tears, as one bishop famously said, “would not be lost.”  It will be an amazing episode, and perfect viewing for Mother’s Day Weekend.  You won’t want to miss it!

Easter Season Bonus Episode

Welcome to another special bonus Easter episode of Saturday Cappuccino with the Saints.   And this week we continue our celebration of the Easter Season by discussing one of the Relics of Easter – The Crown of Thorns.

For two thousand years, the Crown of Thorns has stood at the crossroads of faith, history, suffering, and devotion. This episode uncovers the complete story behind Christianity’s most mysterious and revered relic—its origins in Roman Judea, its transformation into a symbol of sacrifice, and its extraordinary journey through Byzantine emperors, Crusader kings, medieval cathedrals, revolutions, and modern scientific study.

We separate fact from legend, revealing the true nature of the Crown not as the simple wreath seen in art, but as a brutal cap of thorns used by Roman soldiers during the Passion. Drawing from Scripture, ancient texts, historical records, and global artistic traditions, we explore how this relic shaped Western imagination, inspired centuries of devotion, and survived fires, wars, and political upheaval.

More than an artifact, the Crown of Thorns remains a powerful symbol of love, endurance, and redemption—one that continues to move millions and challenge the world to confront the meaning of suffering and hope. This is the definitive investigation into the relic that changed history and still speaks to the human heart.
